In Spite of Everything
Solo tentoonstelling Marissa Splinter
Marissa Splinter (1992) presenteert haar eerste solotentoonstelling: In Spite of Everything — Part One. De tentoonstelling toont werk dat voortkwam uit een reis van twee maanden door de Verenigde Staten en Mexico in 2024. Met een camera in de hand en de bereidheid om te luisteren ontmoette zij onverwacht bijzondere vrouwen. Thuis zag ze wat hen verbond en zo ontstond dit project.
De vrouwen in dit project hebben veel meegemaakt, ieder op hun eigen manier. Wat hen verbindt is een diepe veerkracht en het vermogen om, ondanks alles, iets moois van het leven te maken. Rosalía, Doratriz, Karen en Melissa hebben meer met elkaar gemeen dan ze ooit zelf zouden denken.
“Met een van deze vrouwen, Rosalía, is nog steeds contact. Ik krijg regelmatig een gifje toegestuurd, met de boodschap“Have a beautiful day". Dat hoort voor mij ook bij dit project. Het zegt voor mij veel over de impact die we als mensen op elkaar hebben.”
De tentoonstelling combineert fotografie, film, geschreven tekst en persoonlijk archiefmateriaal. Er verschijnt een limited edition publicatie die naast de fotowerken, ook te koop is. Dit is het eerste deel van een groter project.
“Verbinding is waar mijn werk altijd over gaat. In dit project vond ik dat in de gesprekken die ik had en in de vrouwen die me hun verhaal toevertrouwden.”

Marissa Splinter (1992) presents her first solo exhibition: In Spite of Everything — Part One. The exhibition presents work that grew out of a two-month journey through the United States and Mexico in 2024. With a camera in hand and a willingness to listen, she met extraordinary women without looking for them. Back home, she saw what connected them and this project took shape.
The women in this project have all lived through much, each in their own way. What unites them is a deep resilience and the ability to, in spite of everything, make something beautiful of life. Rosalía, Doratriz, Karen and Melissa have more in common than they would ever know.
"I am still in contact with one of these women, Rosalía. She regularly sends me a gif with the message 'Have a beautiful day'. That is part of this project for me. It says a lot about the impact we have on each other as human beings."
The exhibition combines photography, film, written text and personal archival material. A limited edition publication will be released alongside the photographic works, also for sale. This is the first part of a larger project.
"Connection is what my work has always been about. In this project I found that in the conversations I had and in the women who trusted me with their stories."
